Is layer filter list auto generated?

Hi all,
is the layer filter's list auto-generated?
I'd used the lisp to clear the layer filter list, but, the next time i open
the same drawing, all the filters come back again!
Is there any variable to disable this feature? When i open so drawing i have
to clear the filter list and then create the filter i want to use, or, is
there an improved version of the LayerFiltersDelete lisp whereby i can make
selection thru a list of filter.

Have you cleared the layer filters from the XRefs themselves?

Nope, there is no xref!

Layer filters are "inherited" from anything used in the DWG... xrefs,
blocks, templates.
Each of those must be purged to get a true handle on your filters (UGH!)

Workaround:
There is a method to purge all filters (do a search on this NG) - use it,
and "import" desired filters from a block or template.

Note to Autodesk... don't ever make such a mess of our dwgs again .

Now using the Smartpurger to purge all drawing's filters.

One more thing I may not have been clear on...

Each Block and Template must be purged... and the Dwg you're editing....

And I have not tried the results of
* re-defining blocks via wblock
* inserting blocks 'exploded'

Nevertheless... lots of unwanted filters are accumulated in time.
