DIMSCALE issue in 2011

It used to be if in a lisp or menu macro you could set DIMSCALE as if from the command prompt and an dimension style override would get set... and then any (non annotative) dimension's features would take on that DIMSCALE.  however it doesn't seem to work as it did in the past.  When I do this... the current dimension style gets an override all right enough, but the dimension style itself shows its setting changed.

I wonder if I am loosing it.

input anyone?
