Autolisp R14 question.

Anyone know of an easy way to take items in a selection set (arcs and lines), and select any one of those lines/arcs and see if there are any other entities in that set that connect to that entity end to end, but will stop looking if the entities form a closed loop, with either the selection set entities or another given entity. We are talking 2D here.
Thanks for any help
