know of an easy way to take items in a selection set (arcs and lines), and
select any one of those lines/arcs and see if there are any other entities in
that set that connect to that entity end to end, but will stop looking if the
entities form a closed loop, with either the selection set entities or another
given entity. We are talking 2D here.
