Any good customization books?

Howdy!
Can someone recommend a good customization book? My office runs A2Ki and
I'd like to teach myself to be the customization guy. I think it'd be most
useful to learn about writing lisps, creating pulldowns, and that sort of
stuff.

Thanks,
Bryan

If I have a disagreement with someone, you can bet it's not motivated
by anything as petty as the need for attention.

Oh, and people question my code all the time 😉

Oh please. Like people hunt Tony down just to give him grief.

I was visiting Marks site and clicked over to his "books" section and
Maximizing AutoCAD R13 is available from Amazon.com in "new" and "used"
versions, $73.95 and $51.33 . Here is the URL for any interested ...

So I see you have never been targeted by him.
Or else I'm sure you wouldn't be much amused.

How can you possibly jump to that conclusion? Let's just say that I
understand Tony better than many (most??). So I observe; I don't play --
mainly because I understand his rules. It's his ball, his bat, his glove.

And Tony certainly doesn't need (or even want) me to defend him. Some of his
behavior is indefensible anyway. But that's not the point --- not my point,
anyway.

On balance, we're all better off for having Tony around, I think. If he
"offends" you, ignore him.

Frank,

Could you be more specific? Is the book too xxx or not yyy enough? Are there
errors? Etc.

I use it as a college-level text and find it to be not 'perfect' but
certainly 'good'.

(And now I suppose you can no longer say that you've received nothing but
"bad feedback" on it.)

I guess I'd disagree with that. Frank can come across very arrogant and
abrassive. I've seen it with planty of folks not just me. Likewise, he
often thinks about things from a different angle than a lot of folks and
plays the devil's advocate which get's people thinking which is good.
Everything's got a balance I guess. I've seen Tony come across as very
abrassive too just as well as providing excelent feedback. In Tony's
defense, he's pointed out the error of my ways in code many times in the
past and NEVER came across poorly.

And people do with Tony too. Only in Tony's case, he always put's up a
good argument for doing it his way. My impression of Tony's work is that
he's never done anything without carefuly thinking out every last detail.

Well said Dave. I'm not perfect and neither is my wife. Yet we stay with
each other becasue the benifits far outweigh and of our short comings.

With Tony, what he brings to the table in the way of programming
knowledge and details way more than outweights any quirks people may
think he has in his personality. In my opinion, Tony would most likely be
one heck of a fun person to go and throw back a few beers with. I find
his tell-it-like-it-is approach refreshing in a world of political
correctness.

Gentlemen (all of you, just tagging on to Dave's message to keep
it in this message group)

The discussion of personalities is getting well... too personal!
Please return to the coding that you all do so well and leave the
personality pluses and minuses out of the talk.

I'd hate to have to move it to Take5 as then someone would have
to explain who all these people are.

Dear Anne,
You speak lightly, but you are missing the point. These personalities that
code so well are the heart and soul of customizing AutoCAD. What ever their
reasons for contributing to this group are, they provide a free service to
all AutoCAD users that Autodesk has not. The folks that you threaten with
censure have feelings and personalities and the rest of us need to hear
about them. For several years I have followed this group and even made some
minor contributions when possible. When you appear its like a great owl
swooping down to snatch a puppy from the barn yard. Try putting a little
moderate back in moderator. This thread contains nothing unseemly and should
be left along for the benefit of the folks that don't know these names very
well. I am offended that you do not find any benefit in what is being
discussed here. We are customers and these fellows attract new customers .
For that reason alone you should be a little more respectful of their
opinions.

both ways. But you get my point. 🙂

Bobby,

I have Rusty's books going back to ----RELEASE 9!!!!!!

I've worked with Rusty on a couple of projects -- a fine (albeit somewhat
digruntled) young man. Rusty, I'll have you know, owned (and used) a copy of
AutoCAD Version 1.0 (ca 1982). He is a wealth of AutoCAD knowledge, history,
trivia, etc.and can "do" AutoLISP real well. Somebody told me that Rusty
went to high school with John Walker but I think that's untrue -- Rusty's
from Ohio.

Now, let's heed Anne's kind warning and get back to Customization and LISP
programming.

Whoa!!! $75 is a bit steep. Got to be the most expensive AutoCAD book
around --- and it ain't even for the current release!! It's for R13!!!!

Tells you just how good this book probably is. Glad I have my copy already.

Jim -

Lighten up! Notice nothing is moved, (EDITED), deleted or touched
in any way. Of all of the 80+ newsgroups, Lisp has the longest
history of online fistfights. Maligning any personality isn't in
the spirit of the newsgroups especially if they are not currently
on line to defend themselves. A warning occasionally diverts the
low blows.

Ok Anne, I will give it a rest. I take no pleasure in seeing folks bashed
for their opinions. In this case the comments shed much light on the
personalities involved.
Thanks for letting them stand.

I thought about buying a copy after all the praise it got here in this

would freak if I spent $51 plus to buy a used book. Maybe I can steal a copy
