Reuse / Track Auto File Numbering

Reuse / Track Auto File Numbering

Please change the Auto Numbering tool so it checks the database for unused/used numbers instead of just taking the next number in the list based on the last number assigned.  Even if the number hasn't been used (i.e: make components command is cancelled) the number is taken and can't be used again. This can cause problems in companies which use numbering systems based on specific situational criteria. Contact me for more information.

we can't use Auto numbering in the current format because it trashes too many numbers. So we are being held back from integrating a feature which was in the top 5 reasons of why we implemented Vault to begin with. Needless to say we were pretty hacked off once we realised the marketing information surrounding that feature wasn't anywhere near as good as it sounded.

we too are seeing our items numbers get quite large quite quickly and have resorted to generating an Excel spreadsheet listing all the current "purchased" item numbers. We now refer to this spreadsheet when generating items for purchased components so that we can reuse numbers that are actually unused.
