file stucture and design change (new at vault)

Hi

I am new at vault and would like input on how I should sturcture my files and how to keep track of changes.
The custom projects I keep in a seperate file for each customer. This works fine.

But we also make a line of different pieces of equipment and this is where I'm not sure what is the best way of doing this.

We keep changing the design over the years and also some have different options

They all have multiable sub assemblies.

We have serial numbers on each piece of equipment

When should it be a revison or a new part?

How do I keep track of the different designs with the serial numbers?

I am interested in your opinion on what is the best work flow and policy.
