What happened to Download files checkbox in Check Out dialog box?

We used to use the "Download files" check box to check a file out but not download a file from Vault.  This provided us a valuable workflow to experiment with files without checking them out.  We would do a Get of a file and we would remove the "Read Only" flag on the file using Explorer.  We could them modify the file without checking it out of Vault.  If we wanted to use this file, we could do a check out and deselect the "Download files" box and we would get ownership of the file we already had in our workspace.

We also used this workflow to restore previous versions of files.  We would open a previous version of a file and close it.  Then we would remove the read only flag in Explorer and check the file out without downloading the file.  This way we could quickly restore old versions

Now the check box is gone and I was wondering if this option is still available and I'm missing something or was this important feature removed and now I have to find work arounds to do what I used to do in Vault 2013 on under?

Thanks to anyone who has any information or suggestions to replace this valuable check box.

In 2014, use Get/Checkout.

When the Get/Checkout dialog appears, you can click on >> to expand the details.

This will show the files you selected.  If the files are not checked off, they will not be checked out.

If you look at the bottom of the same dialog,  You will see the circle with a check mark which indicates how many files will be checked out.  The status icon next do that, shows how many files will be downloaded.

Hello Hywell,

Do I still have the capability to check a file out, but not download a file?  This is what we were able to do in Vault 2013.

Yes, in the drop down box above the status icons it should default to Working folders.  Select the Drop Down box and select none.

So to check out without downloads, make sure this is set to none and the file is checked.
