Vault Backup

I have read and think I understand the methods described in Brian's Vault
Best Practices Whitepaper. However, my IT guy insists he knows a better
way. We are ready, finally, to go live and I want to settle this back up
issue. He wants to simply stop all services, perform the tape backup, then
restart the services. I don't know enough of the whys and why nots to make
an argument against this. I would prefer that we follow the procedure as
listed in the paper. Is there any documentation available that can describe
in a more technical way the reason the backups are done as recommended in
the white paper?

Essentially what your IT guy wants to do is possible but there are one or two drawbacks.
If your sever goes down and you need to get a new one up and running quickly then it is much easier to do a "Restore" in Vault manager from a Vault backup than to restore the SQL data and filestore data.
Also there is a lot less down time via the Vault manager backup method, the services will probably only need to be down for 10 mins on a large vault, 5 mins on a small vault.

You would be much better off talking to your reseller about this issue and get them to talk to your IT department
