Vault 2009 IV2008 slower performance question.

I upgraded to Vault 2009 hoping to take advantage of some of the new improvements. We are finding it takes twice as long or even more to add files to the Vault and get files that are not on the local computer yet. We are running the full version of SQL server 2000. Would their be any significant improvements if we upgraded to SQL Server 2005? Hoping not to have to go back to Vault 2008 especially if we will need it once we upgrade to IV 2009. Thanks in advance, Chuck

Assuming SQL2005 and SQL 2005 Express give the same performance, then don't hold your breath about SQL 2005.

I have IV2008 with Vault 2008 running on SQL 2005 Express and it is slow as molassis. Productivity has taken a nose dive.
I am longing for the time with IV9 and Vault 3. Then everything was crisp.

Other people here complain about Vault 2009 being much slower than Vault 2008, so my copy of IV2009 is collecting dust somewhere.

I am considering not to renew my subscription.

I feel your pain Robert. Moving forward to the latest and greatest translates to less productive and fancier. Message was edited by: Chuck_B

Thanks for the emotional support.

Can you imagine that Adesk is now working on IV2010 with Vault 10 thinking about all new stuff to add.

Can you imagine the morning meeting? Some poor soul is new in his job and has read on the newsgroups the some people don't like how slow things are with Vault and IV. He brings it up in the meeting.
"Well, we are not going to mess with that. Let them just buy the new version. With all the new features", the manager says.

Actually we could make a little Utube video, it would be hilarious.

We reverted to MSDE from SQL 2005 Express with Vault 2008 to get back to the Vault 5 performance level.

Now, however our database has grown enough to require SQL 2005 Workgroup. We are installing it next week. I don't want to hear that it will be slow like Express.

Hi Chuck_B,

- Kindly define in more details what seems to be the experience you're
having with R2009.

- Do you have SQL2005 SP2 installed?
b) Open SQL Server Management Studio, r-click on the
[MACHINENAME]\AutodeskVault and select Properties.

- *Peform following OFF Hours i.e. no active user<>vault
communications.*
Titled "Creating a Microsoft SQL Maintenance Plan" on page 40 of the
Advanced Configuration Guide (ACG) for R2008, you will find steps I'd
like you to run at least once before proceeding further with this
investigation. After you've setup the plan in SQL Server Management
Studio, you may decide to r-click on the maintenance plan and Execute
it manually, too. It is located in the left-side Object browser >
Management > Maintenance Plans > [YourMaintenancePlan]

The ACG2008 can be found at
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9594013
&linkID=9242499. We're currently working on ACG2009, but AFAIK,
abovementioned area isn't being changed.

We haven't installed SQL2005 on or server yet. We have SQL2000 SP4. Are we fine with SQL2000 and R2009? If so can I run the same maintanence that are in your instructions using the SQL2000 version software or is this something new in SQL2005?

The only thing we did was upgraded to R2009 and the necessary client upgrades and noticed it takes a very long time to check in files, add files, and get files after upgrading from VAULT2008

Thanks,

Chuck

Support for SQL 2000 SP4 is being phased out with the Productstream 2009
release as it reached end of life by Microsoft.

(Note that Inventor 2009 still supports SQL 2000 SP4 for Content Center
users. For this reason, SQL 2000 SP4 is still supported for Vault 2009. If
you plan on upgrading to Productstream 2009 you will be required to upgrade
to SQL 2005 SP2.)

Since you are a Vault user, SQL 2000 SP4 is still supported. You may use
SQL Enterprise Manager to set up a SQL maintenance plan in SQL 2000.
Periodically running the maintenance plan will keep your SQL server
optimized for best performance. However, we recommend upgrading to SQL 2005
SP2 and configuring your server environment as described in the Advanced
Configuration Guide.

For Express users - Microsoft offers a 'SQL Server Management Studio
Express' for managing your database

Do you have a different link to the ACG2008? That one appears to be dead. I did notice that the whole line wasn't hyperlinked but it didn't seem to make a difference when I included the last part.

Chuck,

Try this one - it links to the PDF directly:
