The Template is read-only. The template will not be updated

Right, so I applied the non public workaround to fix this:

Visual Data Management Not Working in 2015

Then I got this error:

Cannot generate Vault report from the template in Inventor 2014

and fixed it....

Now I'm getting this error:

2014-06-23_15-51-04.jpg

How can the Visual Data Mapping be SO broken in 2015? Amazing. AND we are nearly 3 months since RTM was released.

I'm using Windows 8.1... it appears this error is happening with Inventor 2014 as well.

Right, so even though my Windows user has full admin rights, I'm having to run Inventor using the 'Run As Administrator' option from the context menu on the taskbar... or the start menu.

I'm loath to mark this as a solution.

Hi Scott,

just want to ask if you could try disabling UAC and see if the problem still persists:

how to disable UAC

Thank you

Thanks Paul... thats the fix I summarized in the blog post I linked to in the OP. I doesn't help here and Autodesk Support are being remarkably slow to react to this issue.

Hi Scott,

1. 'The template is read only. The template will not be updated. Contact the template author' - message is seen when you do not have the write access to the template. Please check if you have write access to template you are using.

2. I checked with on Windows 8.1 with VP2015 RTM client + Hotfix for Data Mapping Update (required Micosoft Report Veiwer 2010) - I can see the data mapping working.

I have a brand new, fresh operating system, with everything fully patched, local user (Microsoft Account) has full admin rights and this is still happening. It will ONLY work if I start Inventor using Run As Administrator.

Maybe you were using a Domain account on Windows 8 or a local account rather than a Microsoft one? maybe that makes a difference? It works normally in my Windows 7 VM.

Had this happen on a set of machines running 2018 last week.  Not only this one, but it was then followed up with the "template is read-only" issue too.

Time for a fix?

Not sure if you've been able to resolve this already.  I have found that if you copy the template .rdlc files out of their default folder into a more "user friendly" folder (tested with Desktop), that you do not need to "Run as Administrator" and the mapping works as expected.
