Server Console 2012 could not find the Data Management Services?

Hi All,

We have Vault 2012 (standard) installed on our parent companies server.  There are only two users activly using this Vault at this time.  As of yesterday morning, the Vault was working fine.  Myself and the other user were both able to connect with no problems.  Yesterday afternoon I tried to connect and received the "Autodesk Vault 2012 could not find the Data Management Services on servername."

I checked wtih our IT group and they said there have been no changes to the server.

I have admin access to the server so I reset IIS... no luck.  I noticed that the 4 typical processes are all running (w3wp.exe, sqlserver.exe, inteinfo.exe and connectivity.windowsService.JobDispath.exe).  I am able to start the ADMS console, but when I try to go to Tools>Administration... in the console, I get and error saying "Autodesk Data Management Server Console 2012 could not find the Data Management Services on xxx.x.x.x."

The strange thing is that the SQL database and ADMS console are all on the same server and the IP address of the machine is different than the one that comes up in the error.  What could be going on here?  When I run the SQL Server management studio, I cannot find the AUTODESKVAULT database listed anywhere, but I can manually type in the database name and connect using the default sa password.

Any ideas as to what might be going on here?

Hey Rob,

Couple of things - typically this message is that infromation is being filtered (AV, Proxy, or FW) or IIS is not communicating properly.

On the server, are you able to browse to:

http://127.0.01

http://localhost

http://%YourServerName%

http://%YourServer'sIPv4Address%

They all show display the IIS welcome page or an "Under Construction" message.

Next, try to access one of the Vault ASMX pages:

http://127.0.01/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

http://localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

http://%YourServerName%/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

http://%YourServer'sIPv4Address%/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

Success will look like:

Vault_ASMX.PNG

Please post your results - Go Red Wings!  😉

Hey Andy!

So I tried all of the above... the first 4 gave me a "HTTP Error 403.14" - Forbidden error.

The next four gave me a "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found" error.

So I opened up IIS (this server uses IIS7) and the attached screen shot is what I see... no AutodeskDM website! Smiley Surprised

Is this normal with IIS 7?  Or should it be there the same as IIS 6?  By the way, this is a Windows Server 2008 R2 standard machine running the full version of SQL 2008.

What do I do?

Thanks!

Rob

Maybe I shouldn't bash the wings or you might stop helping me! 🙂

Hey Rob - if Econ-SQL has the console installed, there should be an AutodeskDM site somewhere in IIS (may not be under Default Website, but it should be there...) Do you know if IT made any changes that affected IIS over the last few days (maybe they installed a new app that made changes?)

The 403.14 could be caused by a few things - most likely that directory browsing is not enabled, but it may be that ASPNET needs to be re-registered in IIS.

What I would suggest would be to run a re-install of Vault Server through programs and features -> Autodesk Vault 2012 -> Change / Uninstall -> Reinstall.  Let me know if that brings back the AutodeskDM site in IIS and we'll go from there.

Andy,

The Re-install fixed it.

I am not sure what casued it.  I will have to talk to the IT guys tomorrow to see if they changed anything.

I still do not see the AutodeskDM site anywhere in IIS, but it's now working so it must be there somewhere!

Thanks!

Rob

By the way... although I am not a fan of the Red Wings, some of the Red Wings fans are pretty cool! Smiley Tongue  Thanks for your help (as always)!

Rob, its most likely nested under the Default Website - it should be there if its working though for sure.  (it may not show up until you refresh the grid, or close the IIS manager and re-open as well)

Happy to help!
