Searching in Vault 2009

Not sure if this question has been asked before but here it goes:

I just updated to vault 2009 from 2008. Before when i searched for part numbers that i have stored in custom properties or even in the part number field within the Iproperties, i was able to punch in a number in vault and it would come up.

Since the upgrade, it's not the case, i type in the number but nothing comes up. I even know that we have that particular part but vault is still not recognizing it.

Is there something im missing? Also i have enabled content indexing service.

Thanks in advance

Could we have some more information. For example the server vlog file and
an example of the part number with the search string attemped.
Also did the search dialog have a message saying "This search has returned
incomplete results because the search indexes are being created. All
searches will be incomplete until the indexing is finished"

Thanks,

Sorry but i haven't looked for vlogs on the server for a bit, where would the reside again?

as for an example of a part number it's just 10030351. As for the message saying that the indexing is incomplete, i got it one time, when i first turned it on, but tried it couple hours later and it didn't display again.

Thanks

The default places are
For All OS (except Vista)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore

Vista
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore

Hi Simon,
I did not see anything in the vlog. I wanted to double check my facts:
Your search string was "10030351" and
the part number was "10030351"?

Here are some things to check:
From a client select from the menu
Tools->Administration
select the Properties button from the files tab.

Is the property in question turned on and searchable?
Also is there more then one property with the same name?

That solved my problem. I remember in 2008 we had that menu, but i wonder if for some reason when updating to 2009 something got twisted, but not i still have a second party to this problem. I have noticed when i create parts in inv 2008 and i fill in my part number and other custom properties, and i add it to the vault, it does not display on my browser in the vault as having any of those part numbers and other information, but when i open the part, it is present in those fields. It just started happening after upgrading to 2009 vault. I have also tried doing this in inventor 2009, with the same problem.

Thanks again

Hi Simon,
I'm not sure if I have a good picture about second problem, but here is
what I think your seeing.
All items previous added before you enabled the property would not have a
value until you go into the ADMS Console and reindex properties.

Steps from ADMS Console:
Right click on your Vault.
Select Re-Index Properties

I re-indexed the properties but it still didn't help. Here is a screen shot that might make more sense.

Thanks

Hi Simon,
Could it be possible that the reindex was not completed. Clicking the
Re-Index properties button will give you a status if the reindexing is
currently running.
Can you check the Properties definition dialog again. This time filter
on "File" instead of the default "All". Check the Column Usage. Are any of
these properties used?

Is there two different "Part Number" properties?
Other then that I would need a sample to try and reproduce the problem.

There are two part number fields when going under customize views. I have made sure both of them are visible and also it's not just the part number. Same things happends to custom iproperties. Would you like any screen shots to show my problems??

Hi Simon,
Can I get some more information ?
What file extension(s) are we talking about?
Are any of the properties found for these extensions?
What Windows OS is the server on?
You can look in the Windows Event log to see if anything useful might be
there.

You can use something like the link below to see what IFilter are
registered.
http://www.citeknet.com/Products/IFilters/IFilterExplorer/tabid/62/Default.aspx
Look under the tab Indexing Service 3.0
What dll is registered to that file extension(s) in question?

I registered the IFilter today in the morning.

The file extensions that we are talking about are .ipt's and it's the iproperties within those files. The iproperties on older files *anothing older than last friday* exist and there were no problems in 2008. As soon as i have upgraded to 2009 i started having problems with those. We are still using Inventor 2008.

The server software we are running is: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1

I looked in the event viewer and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Can you try one thing.
Can run iisreset.exe from a windows command prompt.
Add a new ipt to the vault and see if they have values.

Just tried it and nothing. It seems anything new that i create is missing all of the iproperties in the vault explorer, but they are still present when opened in inventor. Makes me think there is one tiny setting in Vault Explorer that im missing.

another thing i have noticed, is when i update an existing part with new description and new part number, they wont show up in the vault explorer anymore.....

From what I can tell it seems to be the iFilter. Can you post
invfilt..log (ex. invfilt.00.log) from the c:\windows\temp
directory.
Also can you check the permissions on the dll you registered.

Thanks,

Dain
