Re-index PS 4.5 baloons database

I'm just getting PS 4.5 up & did a re-index on my test vault. Before
re-index the database size was 160 MB, after it was 275 MB. Is this normal?
Defragmenting afterward had no effect.

Yes, this is normal if the re-index process needs to add more data to your
database.
However, this doesn't mean that it is using the full 275 MB. SQL will grow
the database a certain percentage, usually 10%, if it needs to add more room
in the database.
Are you still using the MSDE version of SQL?

No, SQL2000 sp3a
Have you tested sp4?

Dave,

Yes, SP4 is fine, but you'll need Vault 4 with Sp2 installed or you won't be
able to login and work with the Vault.

Some other tidbits on DB growth and Vault purging and reindexing..

Doing a purge will request more space within SQL..The default value for DB
growth in SQL is 10%. Therefore, when you do a purge SQL tries to reserve
10% for growth (not that it will need it necessarily) so if you're at 1.8 GB
you will just get by, however, if you are at 1.9 Gb it will try to grow to
2.09 Gb.. thus, if you're on MSDE you'll hit the wall.

Also, if you purge the DB the file size won't shrink either. It will clear
out space inside the SQL tables that SQL/Vault will use up completely before
it begins or needs to grow again. So, purging can buy you some time, but if
you wait too long even purging won't/can't help because it cannot reserve
the 10% needed to perform the purge.. and it will fail.

Thanks,
Bob

Yes,
I would install SP4 because of the performance improvements it provides.
