Project file .ipj will not checkin

I have in my vault 2 versions of my designs.ipj file.  So I've done this before.  Now I made some changes (or i think i have) in the last month without having a checkout to the designs.ipj and I want to check in the new version.  So I've tried checkout without download, checked with download then copy over the file in the working folder, but either way vault (basic) won't accept the checkin.  Well, it performs the process, but I still only have 2 versions shown in the vault and the date is still 1 month old.  Help?

Are you sure the project file iteself has changed?

If you do a check-in and Vault detects that the file has not actually changed it will actually do an undo checkout.

There's been a date change, but I suppose its certainly possible no actual settings in the .ipj were made.  I didn't purposely make any changes, but its a new installation all around here, so I'm constantly teaking things out, I don't recall making specific changes to the project file. Figured safe than sorry to check in.  Actually nice to know there's that feature to prevent millions of extra copies of the same file stored.  Is it a bit to bit comparison, so even if the file (say its a part file) have different dates, the data inside is compared?

Vault has logic to handle any changes due to dates only changing.

There are number of things Vault uses to determine whether a file has change or not and dates are accounted for in that process.
