Migrate Vault 2010 to Vault 2012

Hi,

i've got a migration szenario from Vault 2010 to 2012.

Current system is a Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 server with a remote SQL Server 2005 SP3 x64.

New system should be a Win Server 2008 R2 x64 with remote SQL 2008 SP2 x64 on a new hardware for Vault Server.

My problem is:

Vault 2012 is supported on both operating systems. But 2012 is only supported on SQL 2008 SP2 and newer and 2010 supports only SQL 2005 SP2,SP3 and SQL 2008 SP0.

Is the following migration path supported or is there any better solution?

- Backup 2010

- Setup new Server with Win 2K8R2

- Setup SQL Server 2008 SP2 (configuration as described in Advanced Config Guide 2012)

- Install Vault 2012

- Restore the 2010 backup to the new Server with connected remote SQL 2008 SP2

Thanks,

Sam

That looks to me to be a very good way to proceed. As you are moving to new Server hardware you will have to do all the steps anyway. The order looks logical to me.

One other small other question:

Is Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 supported?

Is Internet Explorer 9 on the server supported?

Thanks,

Sam

64-Bit

  • Microsoft Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard or Enterprise (SP1) is supported

See this link

It should not matter what version of IE is installed on the server, but the Vauilt Collaboration web client supports IE 7 and 8.

That sounds good.

Now, finally I've one last question.

I've downloaded Vault 2012 Server from http://subscription.autodesk.com/sp/servlet/public/item?id=17061000&siteID=11564779. But when i started the installation i could not configure the remote sql. So I think this download is not the vault professional we have licensed.

Can you provide me the link to download the Vault 2012 Professional Server?

Many thanks,

Sam

As you might have guessed, remote SQL is not a feature available with the base level Vault.

If you have purchased VP2012, then it should be listed as one of the products for you to download.

If its not listed and you have bought it, I suspect that it might be a recent purchase, (and not made it through the back office yet), OR that product is not linked to the signin you are using.

I can't find the user login "ShaolinSam" in our system so I dont know what log you are using for your subscription login. In Subscritption Center there should be a link to "Contact Us". You can then select the "Software Download" option. That should fire off a message to our Business Center who should be able to sort it out for you.

Hi,

i just tried to test the migration. I've done the backup on our Vault 2010 Manufacturing (on SQL 2005) and started the restore to the new vault 2012 (on SQL 2008). After some time i get the following error message:

30.09.2011 08:34:28 Connectivity.Application.VaultManager.ServiceException: DatabaseServerNotCompatible [198]  ---> Connectivity.Core.Exceptions.CoreException: DatabaseServerNotCompatible [198]

Can you help me?

Yours,

Sam

We certainly can help you! And I think I have now found you in our system.

I think it would be better if I created a Support Case for you as we might need to exchange confidential information.

The contact name I have for the ShaolinSam user ID is different. Lutz Fiekens??? I'll be in contact with that person via our support portal shortly.

Richard
