Link a 3rd party program to find information in the vault database

is there a way to link information from a file(not an item) in vault to a 3rd party program? im not in charge of this project just trying to get a head start for our IT guy who is.

Your question may be better server in the API forums for the Vault depending on exactly what you need.

Access to the database directly by a third party program is not supported.  We support access to the database from the Autodesk Vault clients or from accessing via the Vault API only.
