Item master numbers

All,

does anyone know what would cause a generic '100000' number to be assigned to an item?  and

is there a way to get the correct number in there cleanly?

What version of Vault are you using?

Are you using a part numbering scheme?

What ERP system are you connected with?

Sorry,

I am using Vault 2013 Pro.

The numbering scheme is manually input.

We are not running an ERP through Vault.

No problem.

Sorry to say, but I can't help you.  I am running vault workgroup 2012.

Don't know much about vault pro.  We haven't upgraded yet.

That sounds like the default "sequential" numbering scheme.  Creating an item will always default to this scheme.  To change it, you have to create a new scheme.  To assign an item number using the new scheme, you have to click on "Actions" at the top of the item window and choose "change item number".   Hope that helps!

Hi,

atrimblewfs is pretty much correct in this analysis and recommendation. To be a little more specific, the sequential scheme is used when the actual default scheme cannot generate a unique number without user input. So for a manual scheme (which always requires input), the sequential scheme becomes the defacto default. As that poster mentioned, the solution is to 'change item number' to manually input the correct item number.
