Duplicating assembly in Vault 2012 is a pain!

Hi Guys,

I am not sure if i do something wrong but is there any change to select all parts within the assembly at the same time and change their path? We need to go and change the path of every single part when we duplicate the frame which has thousand parts to be duplicated and pointed to a different folder. We were told to duplicate all designs in Vault to maintain all links to parts within the assembly.

I used to use the design assistant for duplicating and it was much more user friendly.

Maybe that I am doing something wrong and don't know how to use it properly.

Barvas11,

Look into using Vault's "Copy Design" feature. It works like a charm for exactly what you are looking to do.

Hi Jim,

So how do you change the vault path of all .ipt parts at the same time? You are showing a small assembly with less than 10 parts. I have a frame with over 600 parts.

When you start the Copy Design tool.  I think you have to do this first.

In the "Copy Design From" select the folder where the orginal resides (probably already correct).

In the "Copy Design To" select the folder you want it to go in.

Now when you change the status of a part from reuse to copy, it should change the path to what you put in the "Copy Design To" folder.

There are some times when it will not do exactly this (like when the file you are copying does not reside in the "Copy Desgn From" folder).  When that happens, you can swipe over the "Copy Design To" path, right click and choose "Copy", then paste this over the incorrect path.  This is much quicker than using the "..." and browsing to correct path.

Here's a short video.

Sorry, I was pretty well tied up with issues here on-site. Glad to see you were able to answer this with more detail than I was allowed to offer at the time.
