Adding Projects to vault

I'm in IV10 Vault 4 using semi-isolated projects.
What is the best way to put an entire project in Vault without losing references? I have the vault project all set up. Do I open each .idw and save them so they are on my workspace first? Do I do that and check them back in to the server? I know I'm suppose to do it from within Inventor but you need to be in a vault project, and not in the semi-isolated, to access the models. If I change to the vault project and do "add project" there is nothing for me to add. Some people say to copy the files using windows explore and others say not to. I also read Brian Schanen white pages but he talks about using the "migration utility". Is that really how to do it? I didn't see migration utility in IV10 only in IV9.

You first need to convert your project into a Vault friendly project -
removing work group search paths, etc...

they once you have this and your project resolves correctly you will end
up with a project that can be added in Inventor using the "add-project"
command.

alternately you can use the Inventor "pack-and-go" utility to do this
for you. it will make a vault friendly project for you that can be
added. one warning however, in order to "automagically" do this, it
might change the structure a bit.

When you say remove work group search paths, Should I open and check out each file to make sure they are clean and then close each one, leaving them on my workspace and then remove the search paths?

I'm not a big fan of pack-n-go, so I would like to try this way. If I did pack -n-go doesn't that pull all library parts into that project?

You'll need to make 100% sure that all of your files from the semi-isolated
project are not reserved, or checked out in the semi-isolated project mode.
If they are reserved (checked out in semi-iso) when they are added to the
Vault, you'll have problems when you check it out of the Vault and try to
check it back in. Inventor/Vault will tell you something like the file is
checked out already (ironically, it might even be to you - as in your user
name), which can be frustrating.

I'd make sure you use something like Charles Bliss' tool to unreserve all
files and run it through the migration utility to make sure all the files
are healthy for peace of mind.

Brian is saying you'll need to remove the workgroup search paths because
they aren't used in Vault IPJs. Similarly, you'll need to make sure there
are no library or content center paths located within the scope of the
workspace (as subfolders underneath the workspace folder).

I hope that helps answer your questions.
