update the association of an updated file to an item

in my extension, I update a property of a file, associated to an item. But because the item is still associated with the original file, I have in mind to change the association to this new version, to see the updated property in Vault Explorer.

Can anyone name me the appropriate functions (ItemService, DocumentService) to release the existing Item association and associate with the new version of the file per api?
