item or file(doc)

Hi:

Most general work process in our team,

  1. Client email us the request, e.g. change pline in the drawing, create PDF file, etc
  2. Our team member will do whatever client ask.

How I can track this process in Vault?

  1. Should I create a REQUEST_ID?
  2. Every request could link to 1 to more drawing files. How I can do that? Use Item, link or something else?
  3. How I can track the request: state of request: working in process, released. How long it take from start to finish.
  4. Does this manageable:

e.g.

day 1, request 1 require DWG01, DWG02 and other files.

day 2, request 2 require DWG03, DWG04 and other files.

day 3, request 3 require DWG01, DWG03 and other files.

5. Does any programming required to fulfill the task above?

Thanks

Wes

Hey Wes,

There are a few options here, I assume you are using Vault Professional, so if this is part of a formal authorisation process ECO's would seem to be the best choice, where you could just attach the drawings directly to the ECO, but it seems perhaps you are looking for something more flexible.

In this case custom objects may be a good idea, this would allow you to enter details about the request and link in information like the request email, affected drawings etc.
