Hi All,
I have set up a unique document system for my current company, with the idea that Vault autonumbering will be the main driver of consistancy. The Generate File Number dialog box appers as it should within the Inventor session.
When moving into a Microsoft environment this dialog box does not appear ???
Is this by design ?? or am I missing a setting ??
Regards Luke.
Hi,
Autonumbering is not supported in Office Products. However after check-in you can rename the files in Vault Client using Autonumbering scheme.
Hope that helps!
Can you inform us why you are needing to Autonumber Office documents?
Consistant document management is key in our system & I assume most others.
For Example our project drawings are;
XX-TKAN-G-GA-### (Tank - General - General Arrangement )
Our Engineering Documents follow the same naming scheme;
XX-TKAN-M-DS-### (Tank - Mechanical - Data Sheet)
Standard Specification
SS-TKAN-G-PPC-### ( Standard Specification - Tank - General - Paint & Protective Coatings)
As you can see, we have developed some commonality within our document system that ties not just the drawings but all engineering documents together thus creating a uniform system that all staff can identify.
To have Vault Menu's in Microsoft products but it not support a vital file naming tool seems quite silly as it breaks a vital link between levels documentation.
Will just add one more point of disscusion:-
Saving your inventor parts (Company Part Number) using the auotnumbering generator works great, but if the drawing number & the part number have to be the same your out of luck. As the number sequence has been removed from the generator therefor you are unable to use it as the drawing number .... So this means we have 2 differant tittle blocks so we can extract part number fields for use in Part Drawings And another for Arrangement drawings as this will use the generator.
The tool has so much potential & should have not been released until its full functionality had been observed due to how powerful it could be for Autodesk users. Once its implemented into a system it can not be edited right ??
Therefor if its undeveloped will current users be able to gain its power in future release's ???
Regards
