Upgrade Vault 2012 to Vault 2014

Hello all

I'm upgrading old Vault pro 2012 installation to Vaul pro 2014. The new version will be installed

to new server. Is there a guide how this is done? I could find only guides where current server upgraded

to new version.

Do I have to install Vault 2012 Pro to new server -> take backup from current production environment -> restore current environment from backup to new server-> upgrade & migrate to Vault 2014

Or

Can I install the new 2014 directly to new server and restore the current production environment there from

the backup taken with Vault 2012?

Old server

OS: Windows Server 2003 x64

Vault: Autodesk Vault Pro 2012

SQL: SQL Server Express 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

New server

OS: Windows Server 2012

Vault: Autodesk Vault Pro2014

SQL: Don't know yet, SQL server express 2012 if possible

Hello,

your second way (install Vault Server 2014 on the New Server and restore the backup from 2012) will work and is the best option in my eyes

Can the Vault Basic 2014 upgrade be applied on a Windows 2003 Server rinning SQL 2008 SP2? Requirements say no, however I'd like to know if it will truly not install or if it's just not supported on that OS.

Thanks.

Is this link to the upgrade guide still valid?

Also, if I restore a backup from Vault 2012 into Vault 2014 will it also bring across the conifguration from the previous version?

I was reading this thread because I am about to go from Vault basic 2012 to Vault Pro 2014 also.

You stated that the upgrade help link was still valid but when I use it you just go to the online Vault help page.

Sorry the link isn't working.  Follow this path: Vault Installation -> Upgrade Autodesk Vault -> Introduction to Upgrading Vault.

OK I think I already know this opinion here from what i heard at AU this year but I am going to ask about it anyway.

In the help about the upgrade path it talks about having a test environment that is very close to the production server.

I am going from Basic Vault 2012 to Vault Pro 2014. The Vault Pro is on a new server running Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Std. 2012.

However, BOTH, of these servers, Old Vault Basic that has been running for years and the new one are Virtual!!!

As a matter of fact ALL of our servers here are Virtual. I know that there was some concern indicated about that when I asked at AU this year but that is not something that I can change. So that being said, what are the actual concerns with using a virtual server environment?

One of the main concerns with virtual envirnoments is the amount of allocated resources to the Vault image.  If too little resources are dedicated to the Vault image, you could experience performance problems.

Agreed but then it is simple to allocate more resources as needed.

Like I have said this is the IT world to which I have to exist so there is no real choice here.
