Multiple instance of the same part in the Vault

We are using Vault 2011.  A potential situation we are facing is that there may be the same part many times in the Vault but in different file locations.  This part is approved so we only need one instance of it and for all the assemblies which use it to take this part from the one location.

What is the best procedure using the Vault to manage this?  I know this is down to user procedures but in this case it can not be avoided.

Hi,

One way I can think of is  Using "Find Duplicates" option, find all the duplicates and then Using "Replace" command and replacing the instances with the Master component.

If a same part is used in multiple assemblies then the best way to handle is to place that part under Library and use it when needed. So that all the assemblies are referenced to Single instance from Library.

Hope the above helps!

Thanks.  This is one idea I had as well.  It seems it may be the best solution.

I appreciate the help.
