We have various Microsoft Word 2013 documents that we use for assembly instructions on our shop floor. We have been saving this docuements in Vault. We have to manually type in propertied in the Vault Explorer. We are using Vault to control the revisions, but without an extractable revision property from the Word document, Vault can't check the revision compliance when we release the files. We are using Vault Pro 2014 for files only we have not implemented items yet. I want to be able to have the user type in the necessary information such at Title, Stage Number, Work Center and Revision in a document header and have those fields linked to Custom Propertied in the Word file. This way I can map those Word Doc propertied to Vault properties. This is very important to us becasue we need to be in FDA compliance and this has come up as an issue in an audit. I'm attaching a copy of our assembly instruction template if anyone wants to take a look at this an offer some suggestions.
Thanks!

You can create custom properties in your Word document by doing the following in Word:
File -> Info - This will give you the standard properties.
Select the Properties dropdown and select Advanced Properties
Select the Custom tab and you can create your own custom properties.
You should be able to then map these properties to whatever UDPs in Vault.

Thanks Hywell!
How do I link those customer properties to the content in the document header so that the user can enter the data in the docuemnt header and it will automatically populate the custom properties. We dont want the user to have to go to the custom properties and add the Title, Stage Number, Work Center and Revision and then have to go enter the data into the docuement header.
When in the Header:
Select Quick Parts.
Field
Doc Property
Then you should be able to find your Custom Property and insert it into the header.

I have the custom properties created in Inventor and the word document. I have linked those properties back to vault so they are recognized and searchable within vault. Now for the missing piece..
How can I make my new custom tokens in the word document to pull info directly from an IPT or DWG that it is linked to?

Are you trying to get Word to pull data from Inventor? I'm not sure this is a Vault question, would you like this moved to the Inventor forum?

Yes, I would like some inventor iProperties to show up in my word document header. I am trying vault for the first time (only a couple hours on the program so far), so I wasn't sure if it was going to be achieved inside or outside of vault 😄
Guidance would be appreciated!
