Detach Item in Vault 2011

I am trying to delete an obsolete drawing. I cannot delete the drawing because it is linked to an item in the item master. I cannot change the Item to obsolete to delete it because it is attached to the drawing file that I am trying to delete. How do i detach the link between the item and the drawing file so I can delete both? It seems weird that I cannot delete these files because they are connected to each other, but I want to delete botha nd they are not connected to anything but each other.

Open the idw and delete all views. Then update the item.

This should remove the idw from the item allowing you to then delete the file.
