Collaboration of Vault, Items ans SAP - Best Practice?

Hello everyone,

we are planning a Project with Vault Professional and SAP (SAP-Connector) and I am not sure how we should define the interfaces between engineering-documents, items and sap-materials.

Especially the topic of mass-import items and make vault know that there already exist an item for an engineering document.

Does anyone have a best-practice-document, a how-to, or maybe experiences that you would share?

I am especially worried about the topic of file numbering, item numbering and SAP-Material-Nr.

For Vault it is maybe the easiest way to define the document-name (and part-number) as item-number to find iten-dublicates.

But for SAP I would like to take the material-Number of SAP as the item-number in Vault.

Should I then store the material-Number of SAP as partnumber in Vault/Inventor?

If yes: the engineers would have to manually write the material-number in the iProperty partnumber in Inventor - is that correct?

Maybe anybody could share some experiences with that topic.

I would be glad for any advice.  Smiley Very Happy

Thx!

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

I'm as a postsale support for a Vault-SAP (with connector) instalation.

In my case, all material in SAP is created with the connector, so ITEMS and SAP MATERIAL have same number.

Files is not necesary that have the same number than items in Vault, I explain you that's why.

For example

1.- if you have a 3D model of a Belt A with geometry A

2.- And same Belt A with geometry B

Both of them are Item Belt A with 2 models 3D attached.

ONCE ITEM IS ASSIGNED, WE WRITE THIS VALUE IN DRAWINGS, SEMIAUTOMATICALLY.

To be continue....

Hello Tomas,

thx for the answer so far.

I am curious what the continuation will bring.

I am especially curious how the automatic finding of dublicates will work.

greets,

andrea

If you are
using SAP have a look at the cideon direct interface for inventor. This is a
better solution 😉 at my previous work I was part of implementing this solution
at Danfoss as a inventor / SAP PLM consultant. Here everything works perfect sap-dms,
boms, materials and classification inside sap. Event the ballons can update
according to the numbers in the sap BOM. If you use sap this is the way to go…
The only thing the programming office did was writing a abap that checked that
a assembly could not be released before all parts and subassemblies were
released.
