Change PDF watermark based on vault status

For a PDF document in the vault, I'd like it to have one watermark ("CONTROLLED") that changes to another watermark ("UNCONTROLLED") when a get/checkout operation is performed to copy the file locally.

Is that possible?

Watermarks based on lifecycle are available for Items in Vault Professional.
