Best practice to avoid item creation when promoting Inventor assy

Looking for best practice when creating items with Inventor assemblies. Goal is to disallow some files from becoming items. Example - We've modeled a purchased part, we want the assembly to be an item but none of the parts that make up the assembly. So far have tried BOM structure in IV and set to "Phantom" this works for all parts except Content Center where BOM structure can't be changed.

Thanks in advance

I know this is an old question. Just wondering if you ever found a solution? We will be starting to create items and looking forward the content center parts may cause problems with items, more specifically item numbering. It would be nice to have the option to exclude some parts from the assembly.

Hi,

In Vault 2015 and higher, it is possible to assign item a file without automatically assigning all the children. At that point, the desired children can be 'turned on' as desired. This can be configured in the admin dialog (assign item settings) - 'Rows that will be turned on during assign item'. If this is set to none or existing, new items will not be created automatically for the BOM children.

Hope this is useful,

Paul
