Backup and restore command is grayed out in console

I wonder if it normal that about half of Tools-commands (including "Backup and Restore") are grayed out in console of servers that not belong to publisher's workgroup?

Could full backup be done from such server?

Hi,

This is correct - there are a number of functions that can only be performed from the publisher. Many of which have to do with creating new vaults, etc. As you mention, the built-in vault backup and restore only works from publisher.

We do however support and document procedures for doing backup and restore from subscribers if re-replicating a subscriber from scratch would result in too much down-time (should the subscriber completely fail). Here is the white paper on that procedure:

Hope this helps,

Paul

Thanks - I have read the white paper.

I wonder Is there a way to organize Publisher having only 4 data sets
mentioned in "Backup Process for the Subscriber" subsection (in case of
some general failure of publisher)?

Hi,

I reviewed that section of the doc and didn't see any mention of '4 datasets' . So I don't completely understand the question. Could you clarify?

Thanks,

Paul

Maybe I've misused the word "dataset"

Quotation:

------

Backup Process for the Subscriber

For a successful back up, the following will need to be backed up:

1. All vault databases. Knowledgevaultmaster, vaults and libraries.

2. The SQL Master and MSDB databases.

3. All vault file stores. The file store folder is found at C:\Users\All
Users\Autodesk\

VaultServer\Filestore by default.

4. The SQL Master Key.

-------

Hope Is it clear now what 4 items I've meant.

Hi,

If you want to be able to restore the publisher, that is not sufficient. Most importantly, the subscriber backup lacks the distribution database (AutodeskReplication). Without that database it isn't possible to restore with replication. For the publisher you will need to follow the steps in the '

Backup Process for the Publisher' section.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Ok. Bu if those 4 are sufficient to create single site ADMS (let imagine
publisher is physically destroyed)?

Hi,

While this is in theory possible, I don't think we have any documented procedures for doing so. Probably the best approach is to make sure publisher backups don't perish with the publisher - i.e. stored in redundant, off-site locations. Additionally if you periodically make ADMS console backups then those can be restored into a single site server configuration - people often do that to create separate test environments.
