Autodesk Vault 2014 on Server 2008 Standard (Not R2)

I intend to use a 4 year old server with a 32-bit processor with Server 2008 Standard installed to run our Vault 2014 Server.  Because R2 requires 64-bit I can't install it on the server, but it is listed as a system requirement for Vault 2014.  Is anyone else running Server 2008 Standard 32-bit successfully with Vault 2014?

Hi AnnetteMcLaughl,

I am not sure where you read Vault 2014 needs a 64bit server. You should beable to install a 32bit version of Vault 2014 on a windows server 2008 standard (32bit). Please review the link below.

For 32-bit Autodesk Data Management Server 2014

  • Windows® 8 Professional or Enterprise edition (Vault Basic only)
  • Windows® 7 Business, Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise[1] edition (SP1)[1]
  • Windows® 2008 Server Standard or Enterprise edition (SP2)
  • Microsoft® Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard or Premium edition

Hope this helps 😄

Cheers!

Hello and thank you for the system requirements specs, which I had already reviewed, that prompted my question. It states Windows 2008 Server Standard or Enterprise SP2. SP2 can only be installed on a 64-bit capable system, which mine is not. I had to install the non SP2 version and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have issues.

I understand what your saying now it does say Windows 2008 Server Standard or Enterprise edition (SP2)

I have only install vault on a 64bit server. 😞 Maybe someone else can share the reviews with a 2008 standard.

I can say if you have a large database or filestore then you may want to use a 64 bit server for preformace but other then that I can't say how well 2008 std would work.

I had a windows 2003 standard server running Vault 2009 a while back and it worked fine I would say that 2008 standard would be the same.

Good Luck!

Annette,
64-Bit Only starts with Windows Server 2008 R2 which is different to Windows Server 2008.
You should have no problem with installing SP2 on a Windows Server 2008.
Thank you.

Autodesk Vault 2014 install fails stating that it is not supported on Server 2008, must be 2008 R2. I'll update BIOS to 64-bit architecture and reload 2008R2. This should resolve the issue. Thank you.

Annette,

could you post a screenshot and the log file from %TEMP% so we could review.

Perhaps it is complaining about SQL Server not having SP3?

Thanks

From what I understand you can install SP2 on a server 2008 Standard 32bit on a server that only supports 32bit hardware. You should be able to download SP2 for windows server 2008 standard from the link below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968849

You should beable to install it regardless if the system is 64bit supported. Do you not get the update VIA windows updates?

You will see in the link that SP2 applys to Standard
