Anybody attempted Vault client 2013 and Windows 8 yet?

I'm curious is anyone has had success running the Vault 2013 client on Windows 8 yet or not. I know the issue with .NET 4.5, and that Autodesk doesn't support this yet, but I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to make this work?

Yes, I already upgraded to Windows 8 and am in the middle of figuring out what works and what doesn't... Hah! 🙂

I'm curious, as the more I read the more I get confused... From what I can see, both .NET 4.0 and 4.5 are installed on Windows 8. If this is the case, why doesn't the Vault client run successfully? Does it not use 4.0? Or is it becuase 4.5 is there in the first place? Spoken like a true .NET noob to be sure...

Thanks for looking into this, Darren. I have tried a few things, and can't get it to work either. I heard a rumour that someone managed to get Vault and .NET 4.5 to work together on Windows 7 (something about running Vault in debug mode), but I haven't seen anyone figure out a workaround in Windows 8 yet... Here's hoping someone much smarter than me can figure it out, haha! 🙂

Windows 8 only come with .NET 4.5 and you can't uninstall it nor install 4.0 alon side of it. Vault 2013 is not supported on Windows 8.

I realize that, but almost all the posts and articles I am reading say that 4.5 supports apps written for 4.0, so I'm not sure what is going on with Vault not working... But, I'm not a programmer so what do I know? Anyways, I do know that Autodesk is trying to fix Vault so that it works with 4.5, so I'm hoping that is very soon...

We've done some tests, It could depends from a control library used by the Vault Client, it is not compatible with .net framework 4.5

You will have the same problem if you install the .net framework 4.5 on windows 7

I haven't had any success with this. I would've thought this would be enough time for a patch to come out, but I guess not! 😞

I don't use my machine for production work, so when I need Vault access I use it via a virtual machine on Hyper-V that has Windows 7 still on it. NOT an answer for production work though to be sure...

Unfortunately, Autodesk can often be "slow to the punch" when it comes to new technology (multi core processors anyone?), so I'm not sure if I'll be holding my breath...

I'm not so shure but I think there's no way to deactivate 4.5 on win 8.

We have to wait for sp1

Although this fixes .NET 4.5 this does not provide support for Windows 8.

With the SP1, Vault Basic 2013 seems to work fine on my Win8-machine.

Goodbye Hyper-V 😉
