Altium Vault

We are looking into implementing Vault for our Inventor users and questions have been raised about whether any data-management software can also cover our PCB software - the problem is, it has not been decided what pcb software we want to use.  At the moment it is a very old version of Orcad and Altium has been mentioned as a replacement.

1) has anyone used Altium with Autodesk Vault (and ideally Inventor) and have any comments?

2) After reading a little about Altium it comes with its own "Vault"

Is this something licenced from Autodesk as I'm guessing they possibly shouldn't be using the title Vault for their equivalent data-management solution?  If this is the case then is there any interoperability between the two?

Hi Sam,

The company I work for, EMA Design Automation, develops engineering solutions and we have experience using Autodesk Vault with OrCAD.

Autodesk Vault is a data management tool that will allow you to manage all of your CAD data (both Inventor and PCB) in one system. This gives both your ECAD and MCAD guys the ability to work from one file depository. If you are using Inventor, Autodesk Vault is the recommended software to use for file management. You can then leverage Autodesk Vault to store any PCB designs thus giving you a single system for all your designers.

In response to your second question, Altium Vault is a separate software that was made specifically for the Alitum products. Altium Vault is not the same as Autodesk Vault.

If you're interested in learning more shoot me an email. EMA can assist you with implementing both OrCAD PCB Editor software and Autodesk Vault along with training and support.
