ADMS Pro 2014 with Windows 8

Hi all,

I know that Windows 8 is not officialy supported by ADMS Pro 2014 (... .NET 4.5????)

I've recently read on "Design & Motion" that it will install albeit with a warning.

Well, is there a way to install it under 8 Pro and which is this warning?

I need it only in a testing environment.

Thanks a lot.

Well... I've got it! Smiley Wink

You have to add ASP.NET 4.5 functionality to IIS:

  1. Turn Windows Features On/Off
  2. Internet Information Services
  3. World Wide Web Services
  4. Application Development Features
  5. ASP.NET 4.5

It works for me.

I want to emphasize, however, that Windows 8 is not officially supported so do not use in a production environment.

Well... I will post all the steps later. Everything seems to be working so far: win 8 pro 64 + vault pro 2014 + sql 2012 express ...

If  you post the steps here later, then I can link through to it from the D&M post if you like?

Well, here's a step-by-step procedure that works for me.

  1. I've installed SQL 2012 Express with tools (during this I've only setted the mixed mode access and the sa password)
  2. Under Add/remove Windows functionality I've added "Compatibility settings for IIS6" (all the sub-options) and the related console
  3. Also added ASP.NET 4.5 under applications development functionality
  4. Now, under IIS manager, Applications pool, Advanced settings: Enable 32bit applications=False, Pipeline mode=Classic, .NET Version=v4.0
  5. Install ADMS 2014

Well... I hope I wrote it all down because in reality this is the result of several attempts and google searches. The problems were, however, all related to the precheck of ASP.NET.

I don't know if it can be interesting but on the PC I had already installed Visual Studio Express 2012 (Desktop and Windows 8 editions) prior of everything.

I don't post snapshot because they're in italian. Smiley Embarassed

I hope it was helpful.

Ok I updated the D&M post with a link back to this solution.

Cheers for sharing it. It's awesome when people post back to their original question with their own solution.
