ADMS Backup Takes forever

We have been running our ADMS backup since 5 yesterday and it is still not complete. Is anyone else experiencing huge Backup times when using the ADMS backup?

I would like to say this is an isolated instance but it has always taken 8-12 hours to perform a backup from within ADMS.

A large vault can take several hours to back up. I've seen up to 24 hours on really big vaults. Especially if you do a validation it can take a long time. Vault collaboration and Professional can do incremental backup (and hot backup) which helps in weekdays. Full backup which takes many hours in weekends is usually OK.

Tak a look at these articles for some more inspiration:

Seems like a really insanely long time (fustrating). My database is 12GB (2.5x larger than our MRP) and our file store is 250gb.  I can do a SQL Backup in <15 minutes and I could copy the directory via xcopy in like a hour and a half. What else is it doing?

If anyone knows what it is doing exactly can you ellaborate for me? I think we need another solution to backup vault.

Well,

Take a look at this document that lists the capabilities required of a 3rd party backup and restore solution if using the ADMS Console is not sufficient:

Thank you for that DOCUMENT Smiley Happy

I have 1 more question though.... we are moving to 2012 that is why we are performing the backup plus the server needs to be rebuilt. The server will keep the same name. Can I just install 2012 or do I have to do an upgrade? I can recover all my data from my backup software so I have that.

I wouldn't not sufficient just not effecient Smiley Wink
