Brake Pad Contact

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate a brake disc undergoing constant force braking. I need to see how stresses change as the pad moves around the disc or vice versa.

Whats the best way to do this? Is there anyway if i model the pads shape to apply a force on the pad area and have that force move around the disc at a certain rpm?

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

Using MES with Nonlinear Material Modesl and surface contact can help simulate this.  To make the model simple, we can do like this:

(1) Schech the model in which the force on the pad pointing to the center of disc along z- direction

(2) Fix x- and y- tranlation of the pad

(3) apply a force on the pad along z -direction.  Use a load curve to settle the force first before the disc rotates.

(4) for disc, add joint using beam element to roate it.  Fix the nodes in the center of joint.
