Preview of extruded mesh?

[SimCFD 2015 SP2]

Is there any way to see a preview of an extruded mesh prior to meshing? Setting a part to extruded seems to have no effect on the node display or mesh preview, even though the extrusion generates correctly.

Thanks,

Jon C.

Hi

Have you tried switching to wireframe view? There should be a preview.

As Jon said if you switch to putline mode you will see a line going down the middle.  See the help content for an example: http://help.autodesk.com/view/SCDSE/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-DEAB37F8-F644-46BE-AE7B-F430C095A4D3

Specifying an extrusion supplants the model edge distributions computed under autosizing (as are shown in your image) with a part-specific point distribution displayed along the computed extrusion path for that part. Controls are provided within the extrusion panel to permit either a uniform or variable distribution. The complication here is that both distributions (autosizing and extrusion-derived) are ultimately used by the mesher, however, only one distribution can be displayed, and the autosizing results take precedence.

The mesh preview option within SimCFD leverages a simplified meshing capability (i.e. a subset of that embodied within the SimCFDMesher program) that does not recognize extrusions.

I guess it all comes down to what kind of preview you are looking for. In summary, if you are looking for a preview of the number of segments and bias in the extruded mesh, then that just needs you to look in wireframe or transparent mode. If you are looking for a surface preview of the mesh tetrahedrals themselves and have extruded mesh show up, that isn't reflected in the mesh preview.
