Who's going to AU?

Are you going to AU?  Have you gone before?

I'm going for the first time (and really looking forward to it).

I'll be attending this year. Yeah, I went to my first one when I was 21.
OMG, was that ever an education! 😉

It's like drinking from a firehose.
But... it's also like... fitting in for the first time ever.

I've got some tips... the first 10 are the most important, but, the rest are good to know as well...

LOL.  I guess I should "Wear comfortable shoes."

Thanks.  I'll look through the rest of your tips.  I won't be going alone -- my boss is going too and he's been there before.

I can't stress it enough, seriously. As someone who worked in a 30 acre facility, I was used to putting some miles on my shoes, but, it's a lot more intense at AU. Standing around in lines, standing around and talking, walking between classes... heck, just crossing the casino floor to get to the massive conference center is a good haul. Doing that from 6AM to *coughcough* at night will take it's toll.

Having someone who has been there before will be a help, that's good.

Count me in! This will be number 7 for me. Melanie's tips are SPOT ON! Especially 1-10!! Sign up for the Freshman Orientation class on Monday evening too, it can be very helpful.

Geesh, now I have had to count... this will be #12 for me. (I had to miss one to give birth lol or this would be my lucky 13.)

Some of mine are here.
I've got a better camera now, I should retake that shot, with more mugs.

We always bust these out for Irish Coffees on Paddy's Day. 😉

Really looking forward to this year's, the mugs are neat.

Im going as well..number 2 for me...(well, number 2 at AU..not number 2 as in bodily function..haha)...Im heading out to Vegas on Turkey day and staying until the following Friday n..9 days, a young (ish) impressionable boy, alone in the bright lights of Sin City...I am sure about 7pm I will be perched on a bar stool somewhere..about 2 am, I will be falling off a bar stool somewhere I imagine..

My first AU, I was barely 21... 😕 That was a bit of an education.

I'd seen the outskirts of Reno, but, it didn't prepare me for being in the middle of Vegas. lol.

Speaking of runnig, the one in Orlando in 2005 was the worst. It was in two different hotels. So, I ended up skipping half the classes I'd scheduled because I spent the first day just running back and forth between the two hotels. Shoot me. (half cad management and programming and half facility management, which were in different areas)

In Vegas, the people watching is entertaining... and the later it gets, the more entertaining it is.

Indeed. I had to give up my dress shoes halfway through the week, due to foot swelling, and switched to Tevas (strappy sandals). At least I'd made time for a pedicure before I went. 😄 Whew.

So Don and Darren - now that you are back from AU, how'd it go? Did you pick up anything new?

One of the classes I took dealt with coordinating Revit and Civil 3D data.  I found it extremely helpful (in fact when I was doing the surveys, that class got the best marks) and they put just enough humor in it to keep it interesting.
