I'm a pretty big fan of canoing myself. We've got some great rivers around here.
lol, you don't have to tell me that... I live right on it, but, haven't ever put a boat in the water. It is pretty when covered by the morning fog, though.
It's been a few years since I've been out, but, the last river I was on was probably the Current, did the Jacks Fork a few times when I was younger and had more free time. I may have been on others, but, back then, I wasn't the one doing the planning or the driving, so I didn't really care where we ended up, so long as there was water and boats around.
Those are great floats. Nice and cold in the summer time. People come from all around the nation to float the Missouri and Arkansas rivers, most other rivers are muddy or you need a white water guide (which I'd like to try sometime).
All I've ever done is to Kayak down the Delaware River. I used to go with a group from the beer distributor my friend worked for. We'd do 2 day trips with a night of camping in between. I've never been so sore as after the first time I did it. I couldn't even bear to push in the clutch of my truck. So I tried to coast up to all the lights and stop signs so I didn't ever have to stop. But it was great fun.
Water's not bad. In the stretch we would do there were mostly Class 1 and 2. Since the group I was with was known to the operators. They would put us in above the only Class 3 - Skinners Falls. So that was the first set of rapids I ever went through. Just paddled for may life and made it through.
Most of the trip as easy. There is enough of a grade that you often didn't have to paddle. We'd "raft up" - pull next to each other and interlace kayak paddles. For those who imbibed too much in camp the first night a punishment would be to put them backwards in the raft and then go through a Class 1 with them riding backwards.
