Install Moldflow 2013

When I try to install Moldflow 2013 on Windows 7 64bit I get the following error:

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

 

I get the error on 3 diffrent 64 bit Windows 7 computers.  I was able to install it on a 32bit Windows XP computer without any trouble.  I have also tried downloading the installer again.

 

I checked the temp folder and found a file that said the following:

Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action CheckForSolidWorks, entry: CheckForSolidWorks, library: C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\MSI87F4.tmp

 

I tired to run the fixit mentioned in a few other posts but it did not find any files to cleanup with Autodesk.

Hello Scott, I was sent some information that may help , It looks like it is the windows installer causing the problem can you try the following

 

Windows Installer issues

The Windows Installer Engine could be corrupted, installed incorrectly, or disabled. This may cause installation issues.

Note The Windows Installer Engine manages the installation of software, manages the additions and deletions of software components, monitors file resiliency, and maintains basic failure recovery by using rollbacks.

Use these methods to identify any Microsoft Installer issues that may be causing problems when you install, uninstall, or update programs. Start with method 1, follow the steps in that method, and then go to the next method if your issue is not resolved.

Method 1: Determine whether the Windows Installer engine is functioning

  1. Click Start

, type cmd in the Search box or click Run then type cmd in the dialog (Windows XP or Windows Server 2003), and then press Enter to open a Command Prompt window.

  1. At the command prompt, type MSIExec, and then press Enter.
  2. If the MSI engine is working, there should be no error messages. If you receive an error message, note the error. If you are proficient in how to use search engines, you can use the error message to help locate additional content to troubleshoot the issue.
  3. Try to install or to uninstall again.


If the problem persists, go to method 2.


Method 2: Make sure that the Windows Installer service is not set to Disabled

  1. Click Start

, type services.msc in the Search box or click Run then type services.msc in the dialog (Windows XP or Windows Server 2003), and then press Enter to open Services.

  1. Right-click the Windows Installer service, and then click Properties.
  2. If the Startup type box is set to Disabled, change it to Manual.
  3. Click OK to close the Properties window.
  4. Right-click the Windows Installer service, and then click Start. The service should start without errors.
  5. Try to install or to uninstall again.


If the problem persists, go to method 3.

Method 3: Check your version of Windows Installer, and upgrade to the latest version if it is needed

Important This method applies to Windows XP, to Windows Vista, to Windows Server 2003, to Windows Server 2003 R2, and to Windows Server 2008 only.

  1. Click Start

Hello Scott,

 

I noticed that you had mentioned this install was successful on your 32-bit XP machine, but not on any of your 64-bit Windows 7 machines. 

 

We split up the Adviser install into two separate installs in 2013, one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit, so are you trying to install the 32-bit version on the 64-bit machine in this case?

I am installing using the 64 bit version.  I have even downloaded it multiple times on diffrent computers.  I get no errors when I run msiexec.  My version is 5.0.7601.17514 not 4.5.  The service was set to manual.  I did start it and gave it a try.  Still no success.

I am having the same issue, I would appreciate if someone from AutoDesk would contact me.  Attached are the dump files.  Rename adsk_setup_minidump.zip back to .dmp, would not let me upload it otherwise.

I'm having exactly the same problem and same error in Win7 64-bit.

I figured out that there's an application conflict with SolidWorks 2012 SP2. If I uninstall SolidWorks, then I can install Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Adviser 2013, and Inventor Fusion 2013 and Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Communicator 2013. Specifically, I uninstall all components of SolidWorks except SolidWorks itself, and it was the culprit. More specifically, when installing Solidworks there are a bunch of subcomponents and other options--I had none of these installed, just SolidWorks itself, and that was causing the problem.

 

So, I tried the reverse, where I uninstalled SolidWorks, then installed Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Adviser 2013, Inventor Fusion 2013 and Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Communicator 2013, then installed SolidWorks, and all seem to work fine, at least in my initial testing. I'm the IT guy, not the user, so my engineers will have to test all of them to be sure.

We found a workaround for the issue. If customers run “DVD Driver:\ 3rdParty\x86\VCRedist\2010SP1\vcredist_x86.exe” first, before starting “DVD Driver:\Setup.exe”, they should be able to successfully install Moldflow Adviser.

If you have an electronic copy

 

 eg. on my windows 7 64 bit  laptop

 

C:\Autodesk\Simulation_Moldflow_Adviser_2013_English_Japanese_Win_64bit_12102_002\3rdParty\x86\VCRedist\2010SP1   vcredist_x86 is located there

I assume vcredist_x64.exe will work too?
