Pulling test of cable

I want to perform an analysis in Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2014. Please advice.

I have an assembly which has a connector (hollow shaft) and a cable (shaft).

The cable is inserted in the connector and crimping operation is done.

How to calculate the maximum pulling force of the cable, if a force is applied on the top face of the connector?

Please look at the image for more clarity.

So you want maximum force before it breaks the connection, right?

A force of say some 50N is applied on the hollow shaft which will deform both the parts.

After the deformation is done, the inside shaft (cable) is pulled out.

I want to know the force required to pull the inside shaft (cable) from the hollow shaft.

How do a carry out this analysis on Simulation mechanical 2014.

I am not able to transfer the deformed results from one scenario to another scenario.

Hi Mohammed,

You do not need two scenarios. Think of it as one analysis with two events:

  1. Use forces or prescribed displacements to crimp the outer tube. So these loads would be assigned to load curve 1 which ramps the load from 0 to maximum during the time 0 to T1. From T1 until the end of the analysis, the load is 0.
  2. Then a force pulls on the inner tube. So this load would be assigned to load curve 1 which ramps the load from 0 to maximum during the time interval of T1 until the end of the analysis.
