Material damping (units of seconds?)

I am trying to apply material damping in my material manager. I know the damping ratio based on some experiments I did. However in material manager, the information asked for is damping in units of seconds. Dashpot coeff is in units of Ns/m, so it doesnt appear like Autodesk sim needs "c".

How do I calculate material damping in units of seconds when I know the damping ratio for a material?

thanks,

Abishek

Hi Abishek,

There may be some correlation between 'c' used in engineering to represent damping and the part damping used in the software, but I have never seen an explanation. What the documentation tries to say is that you need to simulate a known case and change the material damping until you get the expected results.
