I'm a beginner using ASM 2013, and I'm trying to simulate a small plastic snap-fit feature inserting into a metal plate. I've had various levels of success, but have yet to complete a full run, and now the part with the prescribed displacement is not even moving. I'm sure it's probably something simple, but I need some fresh thoughts. What factors/settings could I modify to increase my chances of success?
Some settings I'm using:
-Locally refined mesh at contact points
-Low Speed, Frictionless, Surface to Surface contacts
-User defined contact stiffness = 100000 N/mm
-User defined contact distance - 0.01 mm
-15mm prescribed displacement
Hi,
I recommend "automatic" contact stiffness is used first.
What is the value of the initial gap between the two parts? The "user-defined" contact distance had better be smaller than the initial gap. However, the initial gap is zero or close to zero, you can set a small value (like 10e-6) for User defined contact distance.
What is the load curve for prescribed displacement?
You can try to add more constraint to make the model as stable as you can.
If you want to share the model, I can help take a look.
