IGS imported geometry Fixed constraint only in one axis

Hi,

I am working on an IGS imported assembly. I would like to know how i can put a fixed constraint only in one direction as if something is rested on  the ground ( it is free to move up but not down).

I think you might be able to help.

Regrds,

Harsh.

Harsh,

My suggestion is to add another part to the model; that is, the ground. You then define surface contact between the model and the ground. You can fully fix all of the nodes in the "ground" part, so the analysis size will not be greatly affected.

However, an analysis that includes contact will run much longer than "the same" model without contact -- especially if the parts held by contact do not have some other restraints that prevent the parts from "moving into outer space". I suggest that you search the Help documentation for the pages titled "Perform Analyses with Gap Elements" and "Types of Contact".
