HSS6.625X.188

I am trying to use the HSS6.625X.188 pipe section from the aisc 14.1 database in a beam element analysis. When I render it, it looks like flat bar. Is this just a graphical thing or is there a problem here?

Note that if I use the pipe section Pipe6SCH40, it renders like a pipe.

Note also that I tried a couple of other databases eg aiscrev9 and aisc2005 and got the same thing.

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi John,

If your analysis is linear, the results are independent of the rendering. The dimensions used to generate the rendering are not used in the analysis. The analysis uses the A, I2, I3, ... values shown under the Element Definition.

A nonlinear analysis may be a different issue, but chances are the processor reads and/or interprets the dimensions properly where as the Results environment is misintepretting the dimensions.

Okay. Thanks.

Will the database be updated at some point to render correctly? This is helpful when displaying results to a customer.

Regards,

John
