Error reading displacements

What does the error message "Error reading displacements" mean? It occurs every now and then, with no hint as to what might be wrong. Usually it shows after the very first iteration, and the analysis aborts.

Hi Bjorn,

About reviewing which parts are set to Large Displacement and which ones are set to Small Displacement, you can try either of these:

  1. Create a report. The element section will give the properties from the Element Definition, so check for large or small.
  2. View the summary file (.AL extension if you are viewing it with Notepad or another editor). Then search for the text "Type of nonlinear element analysis  (NPAR(3) )=". If the value is 1, that indicates small displacement. A value of 2 or 3 indicates large displacement.

Also keep in mind that the "Tools > Options > Analysis" tab is where the default can be set to small or large. This of course only affects new models or new parts.

About the model not running after retrieving the archive to a different folder. Does the model use any results from another analysis? Such as reading temperatures from another analysis, or reading loads from a file? These types of things refer to files by the full path which may not exist for the new location. (Of course, that depends on whether the original model was kept, whether the new folder is on a different computer, and so on.)

Thanks, found the part and it no longer gives me that warning. Still have the same problem though.

It doesn't use any previous results, so I don't think that's the issue. I will try running it from a different location on Monday and let you know how that works.
