Bolted preload connection

What is the best way to use the bolted connection to determine whether the components/clamps have created a tight seal contact. I understand the preload is not time dependant..

Any suggestion will be appreciated

This sounds like a shrink fit problem. At this moment, you can use Inventor Simualtiona and create shrink fit contact on the bolted surface, then check whether your load will break the bolted connection (making two contact surfaces seperate).

Hi what I am trying to simulate is (see images attached)

1 - Will the torque/preload be sufficient to create the blue seal to come in contact with the hub.

I have tried using the bolt preload wizard without success......any advise suggestions will be appreciated....

Best

From your pictures, it seems you need to define two types of contact for your model:

1. Shrink fit contact between the hub and the clamp. It is set up as follows, when you tighten the bolt, you will know the configuration of the clamp if it does not hold anything (just think it does not hold the hub for now), and you also know the original configuarion of the hub (at this point, also assume there is no clamp on it). Based on these two configuation, you can calculate the shrink fit penetration depth on the contact surface between the hub and the clamp.

2. Another surface contact (known as seperation contact in Inventor Simulation) between the blue seal and the hub (if no preload between these two), or another shrink fit contact between the blue seal and the hub (if there is preload between these two).

After this, you can perform the analysis in Inventor Simulation and check whether the contact between the blue seal and the hub will break under the load you sepicified, like some hydro pressure load on the internal surface of the blue seal and hub.
