Applying mass/weight load to vessel

Without having to model the internals of a vessel, I want to add an even distribution of that weight to my vessel to analyse lifting lug design and vessel integrity.

How do I do this?

I don't think I am familiar with what you are trying to solve, could you provide a screen shot of what it is that you would like?

It sounds like you may want a simple surface force on the inside of the vessel.  The force would be just mass times gravity.

The help here talks about forces.  There is an example of applying surface forces in this tutorial.
