compatibility sketchup

hi everybody

i m a french student in a placement in an english company near worcester, and i used sketchup to modelise one product in 2d to 3d from autocad 2014. And we would like to do an analys with cfd simulator autodesk but i did'nt find how can i import a sketchup model (.skp) in cfd software.

i can in inventor fusion sure, but not in cfd, so how can we do it, if it's possible ?

thanks

Hello,

Did you try to export a solid format from Inventor Fusion ?

For example, you could use sat, and then import it in CFD.

Regards

Yannick

You'll need to use Inventor Fusion or any other format supported by Simulation CFD.  LIkely Sketchup can export .SAT file format.

Good luck,

Peggy

and i'm trying for inventor fusion
thanks again, for you and yannick

From the Sketchup Knowledge Center:

Exporting 3D DWG or DXF files

This is a Pro only feature.

To export a 3D DWG or DXF file:

  1. Select File > Export > 3D Model. The Export Model dialog box is displayed (Microsoft Windows).
  2. Enter a file name for the exported file in the 'File name' (Microsoft Windows) or 'Save As' (Mac OS X) field.
  3. Select the export type from the 'Export type' (Microsoft Windows) or 'Format' (Mac OS X) drop-down list.
  4. (optional) Click on the Options button. The AutoCAD Export Options dialog box is displayed.
  5. (optional) Adjust the options in the AutoCAD Export Options dialog box.
  6. (optional) Click the OK button.
  7. Click the Export button.

For which Fusion can open either DWG or DXF format.  From Fusion you can either launch directly or export a .SAT format.

So i tried to do it:

open .skp file in fusion, save it in .sat, it's ok
but (again) i can't open it or export it with button in the top (in inventor fusion simulation cfd) because in cfd simulation software there is only these format: .cfdst and .cfz

Please read this section of the help documentation:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/SCDSE/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-9A65BDD9-A15D-4F03-8175-DAC2EBDDFE83

Once in Fusion, either launch from within Fusion or if you are trying to open the geometry directly into CFD, you will need to select NEW instead of Open because you will be starting a NEW analysis.

Thanks,

Peggy

and cfd simul doens't find my file.

You seem to be mizing several different paths.

Start here:

1) open .skp file in fusion, save it in .sat, it's ok

2) open CFD

3) Use file new

4) Navigate to your .sat file and select.

ok, i did it and i ve got this message:

"error message: conversion from imported geometry to analysis model failed "

what it means with your point of view please ?

It means you have faulty geometry.  Try another approach or different setting for your initial export from Sketchup.  Please keep in mind, Sketchup is not a support CAD format so anything you do will result in a CAD translation which can add unresolvable errors to the geometry.

and how do you think i can do it ?
how can i import this file in cfd ?

- i must to draw it in autocad ?
thanks

Please be sure to read and understand this section of our help documentation:

Launch the Model

Before starting a simulation, it is important to start with good, well-constructed geometry. The topics in this section describe how to prepare your CAD model for an efficient simulation.

For you, it may mean you will need to recreate the geometry in Fusion.
