Simulation CFD 2014 in Windows 8.1 cannot open any CAD geometry file, reporting "Failed to call pServer.CoCreateInstance(CLSID_InventorServer)". The system has the Invertor LT 2014 installed. SimCFDConfig has all launchers grayed-out. Is this a known issue?

Hi Gibs,
Sorry for the late reply here, only just seen this one. What file types are you trying to open and are you doing this by selecting 'new' from within the CFD interface?
Have you tried launching a model from Inventor Fusion?
Kind regards,
Jon
Hi Jon,
Yes, starting from "New" I have tried all models from C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Simulation CFD 2014\Tutorials\CAD\car\. .Only the ACIS and PTC models open. All other, including the Invertor .ipt files fail. In all cases the Windows 8.1 Event Viever generates a pair of events:
1.
Faulting application name: SimCFDInventorServer.exe, version: 14.0.2012.822, time stamp: 0x5130426b
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16408, time stamp: 0x523d557d
Exception code: 0xe06d7363
2.
Faulting application name: RegisterInventorServer.exe, version: 18.0.61100.9000, time stamp: 0x50f31faf
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16408, time stamp: 0x523d557d
Exception code: 0xe06d7363
Inventor Fusion 2013 didn't start for me in Wimdows 8.1 - no error message, just didn't come up. There was some Event error in this case as well, but I don't have a record, and I uninstalled Fusion already.
Reinstalling did not help.
None of these problems existed in Windows 8.0 or Windows 7.
Thanks,
Gibs740
This is a known issue with our QA team.
The workaround that they suggest (I don't have 8.1 available to test) is to right click SimCFD.exe --> Run as administrator.
Does that help?
Currently only Windows 8.0 is supported and not Windows 8.1 for Simulation CFD 2014.
Thanks,
Royce
i am unable to open my software its showing "MATERIAL DATABASE WAS NOT FOIND"
"VERIFY THAT"matprop.cfdmdb"exists in c:\programdata\autodesk\simulation cfd 2013".but i verified its there but still its ot working
So Windows 8.1 was released in 2013, and an Autodesk '2014' named product has no plans for support? Frankly, purchasers of Simulation CFD 2014 have every reason to be upset with this decision. If an upgrade to 8.1 is not required now, it might very well be required in the future.
The same here. I get the same crazy error message in the Simulation CFD.However, I should mention that I had the same issue with Inventor 2014. Using the latest update for it fixed the issue. We expect Autodesk to release an update/service pack for this compatibility issue.
P.S. A workaround for this problem in the CFD is that you try to open the CAD model from Inventor instead of going through the CFD itself. The problem of this workaround is that if you change your CAD in inventor, you cannot update your thermal model in the CFD.
